Dear Lake Lure Voters,
I strongly support the candidacy of Kathy Tanner for Mayor of Lake Lure. I've known Kathy since we worked together as founders of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge (LLFB). She has consistently demonstrated commitment and leadership of LLFB over the years since. Despite the challenges of an all-volunteer non-profit organization, Kathy's guidance has always been forward thinking and positive.
As Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge continue to recover from the ravages of Hurricane Helene, Kathy's leadership can provide the "can-do" attitude needed to help the recovery be a reinvention, a vision that is inclusive and solutions-oriented. In a small community that my husband and I enjoyed as homeowners and LLFB volunteers for many years, open communication is critical for the health of the citizenry.
Lake Lure is many things to many people--a retirement community, but also a recreation center for outdoor lovers. Begun 100 years ago with the building of the dam that created the lake, it is a small town still capable of attracting visitors who come for the natural beauty of lake and mountains. It is a destination that, managed well, can thrive into the next 100 years.
Leadership is critical to the town's management, in particular the kind of servant leadership that Kathy has demonstrated over the years that she and her husband have established their home by the lake. She is mission-focused, capable of bringing together people with disparate talents, attentive to good ideas and endlessly energetic in finding and acting on solutions that add value to whatever endeavor she attempts.
I would encourage Lake Lure voters to write-in Kathy Tanner for Mayor. She stands for the forward thinking and accountability that can take the Town of Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge into the future successfully.
Respectfully,
Lee Armstrong Lumpkin
