It is my great privilege and honor to endorse Kathy Tanner as Lake Lure's next Mayor. She is a write-in candidate, so you must write her name on the ballot. Most importantly, you must fill in the oval so your vote will count. Failure to "fill in the oval" will negate your vote.
A short history of my background: I served 24 years in the Army, 22 of those years in leadership positions, with 29 months in combat. I served on the Lake Lure Board of Adjustment and Lake Structure Appeals Board for 13 years, 11 of those as chair of both boards. In 2015, I was elected to a four-year term on the Town Council. I taught leadership to many soldiers throughout the years. When attending the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, my leadership experience led to my selection, over 400 of my peers Army-wide, as the Class Vice President for the Leadership Division and my appointment as Command Sergeant Major.
What does that have to do with Kathy Tanner as Mayor? The military attributes and competencies expected of a leader can easily be applied in any civilian leadership situation. Obviously, the Mayor has many functions in representing the Town of Lake Lure and its citizens. We want that representation to be the best possible for the citizens, local businesses, and the future of Lake Lure.
Kathy's character is her most important attribute. She has the high moral and ethical standards needed. She embodies loyalty and respect for the job, the citizens, and the long-term future of Lake Lure. We have seen that year after year at the Flowering Bridge. Kathy has exhibited great respect for her coworkers, selfless service to the mission of the Flowering Bridge, and personal courage and integrity in addressing all issues for the best possible outcome. From a fledgling concept in 2011, that outcome resulted in more than 180,000 recorded visits to the bridge in 2023, making it the number one tourist destination in Lake Lure.
Kathy always exhibits a presence of confidence, resilience, and professional bearing. Her demeanor, actions, and words inspire others. She listens to the ideas of others, knowing the possibility exists for better approaches to problems. Kathy thinks through complex problems and adapts to rapidly changing situations. She is innovative and has superb mental agility, interpersonal skills, and sound judgment.
Kathy Tanner is extremely competent and capable of being the greatest Mayor Lake Lure has ever had. She communicates clearly and leads by example. She develops cohesive teams for various tasks, mentors others when needed, and creates a positive job climate. Kathy manages resources efficiently and conservatively. Kathy Tanner is the leader we need because she delivers RESULTS—not excuses! I proudly give Kathy Tanner my full support and a hearty ARMY HOOAH.
